Second game: The Thunderbirds took a 6-0 lead in the second inning when CF Jon Syrnyk hit a bases-loaded triple, and LF Fletcher Vynne hit his fifth home run of the season, chasing Coyote starter Pat Lyon. Syrnyk grounded out in the sixth inning to send in the winning run. He finished the game 3-5 with five RBI and a double.
The Coyotes hurt their cause with five errors, four of them by SS (later moved to 3B) Alex O'Brien. However, the Coyotes did not go away without a fight. O'Brien also hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to get the Coyotes as close as 7-5. C Dane McGrady batted in a run with a double in the bottom of the ninth, and the Coyotes had the tying run at the plate with one out. Andrew LaFleur was able to get the last two outs, but it took a pretty good play by LF Fletcher Vynne to run down a line drive for the last out.
Scott Webster started for the Birds, and Kurtis Schumacher pitched the third through seventh innings. Schumacher got the win, Lyon got the loss.
RF Mike Styrna, returning from an injury, went 3-4.
