Fresno Pacific ran their winning streak to six games at the expense of the Thunderbirds. They took advantage of five errors by the Birds to score three unearned runs. Both teams left ten runners on base.
The Thunderbirds' sole run came in the top of the first, and was unearned. 2B Alex White got the first hit of his UBC career, and moved to second on a single by CF Jon Syrnyk. C Ryan Pilgrim was hit by a pitch to load the bases. White scored when DH Fletcher Vynne reached on an error. 1B Dave Dick struck out to leave the bases loaded.
Taylor King started and went five innings, and the score was 4-1 when he left. The Sunbirds put it away with three runs in the seventh. The first one was walked in by Kurtis Schumacher, the second came on an error by C Ben Torrie, who replaced Pilgrim at the beginning of the inning. The third run came on an RBI by Aaron Lynn.
Meanwhile, four Sunbird relief pitchers, including Lynn, shut down the Thunderbirds, allowing only one hit in the last four innings.
Jordan Keener got the win for the Sunbirds, and King got the loss. The Thunderbirds relievers were Josh Brink, Schumacher, and Geoff Burke; Burke gave up the last two earned runs in the eighth. White, Syrnyk, and SS Sammie Starr each had two hits. Starr also made a couple of highlight reel defensive plays. 2B Thomas Raymundo was 3-5 for the Sunbirds.
Quote from Coach McKaig: "Tonight was all about getting onto a field for the first time after our rough January weather wise. The boys were very excited to see dry grass, dirt, and sunshine."
