UBC alumnus and Giants farmhand Brooks McNiven has been named to the Canadian Senior National Team that will compete in the World Cup of Baseball in Taiwan Nov. 6-18.
Baseball Canada is putting up press releases about this at baseball.ca. One of them says that most of the games in the tournament will be webcast by Stadeo TV, the same company that was supposed to webcast "Team Canada"'s games in France. Their commentators include former Thunderbird pitcher Gary Tongue and former Kwantlen College coach Jeff Zeilstra.
Update on Nov. 10: Brooks put in an excellent performance in his first start, a 7-1 win over The Netherlands. He pitched six shutout innings, held the Dutch to four hits, struck out two, and left the game with a 6-0 lead. Canada's runs came on a home run by Mike Saunders, an RBI by Taylor Green, two RBI by Emerson Frostad, two RBI by Jamie Romak, and an RBI by Nick Weglarz.
