First game: A game scheduled for seven innings ended up going 11, and it sounded like a pretty good ball game, despite wet conditions. The Thunderbirds trailed going into the seventh, but Craig Leebosh hit an RBI single to send it into extra innings. Pinch-hitter Sean Everest singled in Fletcher Vynne to score the winning run in the top of the 11th.
The Warriors' runs came on an RBI single by Darren Johnson, a two-RBI single by Brett Timmerman, and a squeeze bunt by Kyle Myers. The Thunderbirds also scored on an RBI single by Nik Lendvoy, and a two-RBI double by Ted Wilkie.
Doug Grant started for the Thunderbirds, went seven innings. Greg Chong held the Warriors to two hits over the next three innings, and got his first win as a Thunderbird. Brett Murray pitched the bottom of the eleventh, and got his first save. Jordan Emery started for the Warriors, went 6 1/3 innings, struck out ten. Scott Fitchett replaced him, and got the loss.

Second game: This game was shortened to seven innings because of the first game going into extra innings. The Warriors broke a 4-4 tie with an unearned run in the fifth, then added five more in the sixth, chasing starter Andrew Lafleur. Jeremy Frantz and Doug Gausepohl both hit two-run home runs for the Warriors, and Jason Braun pitched a complete game.
The Thunderbirds' runs came from an RBI by Ted Wilkie, a two-RBI single by Scott Webster, and an RBI on a ground out by David Dick.
The Warriors out-hit the Thunderbirds in both games, 12-9 in the first, and 11-9 in the second. Fletcher Vynne was 4-6 with a double for the day.

This game was called because of darkness after 5 1/2 innings, but it probably would have been mercy-ruled after another inning anyway.
This time, the pitching victims were Scott Webster (first two innings, and part of the third) and Kurtis Schumacher (third and fourth innings). Ben Hoekstra pitched the fifth inning, and managed to hold the Bruins to one run.
Sammie Starr and Brett Murray were 2-3 at the plate. Tyler Willson and Nick Harper batted in UBC's runs. Bryan Donohue was 3-3 for the Bruins.

The Lutes got a huge game from Tyler Green, who hit three home runs with 7 RBI.
The Thunderbirds hurt their cause with four errors. The game was tied at 15 going into the eighth inning, and the Thunderbirds went ahead 16-15 in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Sean Everest. However, Kris Hansen hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth to tie it, and the winning runs came on a two-RBI single by Jared Simon.
Brett Murray, who pitched the ninth inning, got the loss. Mark Hardy pitched the first three innings, Jordan Anderson the next four, and Doug Grant pitched the eighth. Hardy gave up eight runs, Anderson seven.
Murray, Mike Styrna, and Jon Syrnyk hit home runs for the Thunderbirds. Brendan Kornberger and Nic Lendvoy were both 3-4 and 3 RBI at the plate.
The Lutes defeated Concordia-Portland 11-1 later on.

Cal Poly got eight runs in the bottom of the third off Andrew LaFleur and Greg Chong, and four runs in the fifth off Brendan Rolfe. One bright spot in the pitching department was Brett Murray, who pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
UBC's first two runs came in the fourth, on an RBI double by Scott Webster, and Fletcher Vynne coming home on a passed ball. The remaining run came in the eighth, when Sean Everest was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
After no errors in the first three games, they had five in this one.
The Mustangs swept Washington last weekend. They have very good hitting, pitching, and defense. They might make some noise before this season is over.

Nobody likes to lose, of course, but the Thunderbirds acquitted themselves well against one of the best teams in the NCAA, and the way things went is a sign of good things for the future.
One of the positives was the debut of Mark Hardy, a freshman from Campbell River. He came on in the sixth inning in relief of Doug Grant, and allowed one run on four hits in three innings of work. Grant was OK as well. Although he gave up five runs on nine hits, he walked only two, and generally seemed to have pretty good control.
The Highlanders led 5-0 after four innings, on two RBI by Ryan Goetz, and a two-RBI double by Kyle Baratt. The only Thunderbird hits in the early going were two from Sammie Starr. It was looking like the Highlanders might get their second straight shutout against the Birds.
However, the Thunderbirds got into the game with a two-RBI single by Tyler Willson in the sixth. With Hardy keeping it close, UBC got another run in the eighth on an RBI single by Nick Lendvoy. (Brendan Kornberger scored the run; since this game was played by NCAA rules, UBC couldn't use a courtesy runner.) A double play prevented the Thunderbirds from doing more damage in the eighth. They got the tying run to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth,
but Kornberger grounded out to end the game.
The Highlanders used six pitchers. The list did not include James Simmons, who is expected to do great things for UC Riverside this year.

The Thunderbirds took a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but Jordan Anderson walked the bases loaded. He was replaced by Ben Hoekstra. Hoekstra allowed three singles, and the result was four runs and an ERA of infinity for Hoekstra.
The seven Thunderbirds runs came from only six hits. Nick Lendvoy had a two-RBI double in the third and another RBI when he drew a walk with the bases loaded later on. Ted Wilkie hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth; it was his first hit as a Thunderbird. Fletcher Vynne hit an RBI single in the seventh.
Scott Webster started, and pitched three innings, gave up three runs. Kurtis Schumacher pitched the fourth through sixth innings, and Anderson pitched the seventh and eighth. Anderson didn't allow any runs in his first two innings, but never recorded an out in the ninth.
Derek Ricketts hit a home run for the Mustangs.
They loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but Sammie Starr and Ted Wilkie turned a double play to get Schumacher out of the inning. Graham Miller, who started, gut the win.
The Thunderbirds have now lost three straight to the Mustangs.
