Sept. 7 - Lewiston Truckers 3, Team Canada 1: Team Canada faced Colby Hawk for the second time this week, and Hawk came up one out short of a complete game. (Apparently, this was a mistake in the box score.) Team Canada out-hit the Truckers 8-6, but a) Team Canada left ten runners on base, and b) the Truckers got two unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. A great effort fy Eric Brown, who went seven innings, allowed four hits, struck out five. The one run he gave up was the result of a pair of wild pitches. Sheldon McDonald pitched the eighth inning, got the loss. Hawk struck out eight, hit two batters, but didn't walk any.

The Team Canada run came in the fifth inning. They loaded the bases with two out on singles by DH Andrew Firth, 2B Alex White, and CF Blake Carruthers. Then SS Sammie Starr was hit by a pitch for the RBI. The next play, however, was an out at home (the box score says an unassisted play by the catcher) and the bases were left loaded. White was 3-4 for the game.

Sept. 6 - Team Canada 6, Seattle Studs 5 (11 innings): Excellent performance by Taylor King: 7 IP, three earned runs, seven hits, but Team Canada trailed the Seattle Studs 5-4 after eight innings. 1B Scott Webster hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to send it into extra innings. LF Matt Cameron singled in SS Sammie Starr to win it in the bottom of the 11th; Starr reached on a single, then stole second to get in scoring position. Mark Hardy, who pitched four innings in relief, allowed only two hits and struck out six, got a big win. 3B Jordan Padrinao finished 4-6, with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Box score

Sept. 5 - Team Canada 7, Kelowna Jays 0: Jordan Herbison picked up from where he left off with the Yorkton Cardinals this summer. He allowed one hit in six innings, struck out six. Miles Verweel completed the shutout by striking out two of the four batters he faced. CF Blake Carruthers, LF Sean Pisarski, and RF Mike Elias did the most offensive damage. Carruthers stole three bases, was 2-4 with an RBI. Pisarski was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Elias hit a double and a triple, and batted in two runs. Box score

San Diego Stars 14, Vancouver Thunderbirds 7: The YoungerBirds led 4-3 after three innings, and they were in this one until Ryan Hulbert hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth. Good pitching performance by Josh Nichollson, who came on in the seventh with runners on first and second and no outs. He got out of the inning with no runs scored, and allowed one run in the eighth. Big day for DH Mitch Grossell, who hit a three-run home run and a double. Box score

Sept. 4 - Prince George Axemen 3, Vancouver Thunderbirds 1: Good pitching performances by Matt Bannister (6 IP, 4 hits, 5 K) and Cody Chartrand (2 IP, 1 hit, 3 K), but the YoungerBirds were unable to solve Darren Kissock (Chris' much older brother), who threw a two-hit complete game. The only run the Birds got was unearned; CF Christian Jolley scored by drawing a walk, moving to second and third on errors, and scoring when 3B Nic Lindsay reached on a fielder's choice. DH Mitch Grossell and SS Ryan Taylor got the hits. Box score

The loss puts the YoungerBirds up against it; they need a win against the San Diego Stars (1-0 so far in the tournament) to have any hope of making the money round.

Sept. 3 -Team Canada 13, Auburn Athletics 2: Eric Brown, Shawn Hetherington, Dan Britton-Foster, and Miles Verweel combined to hold the Athletics to four hits, zero earned runs. Brown was especially sharp, striking out nine of the 14 batters he faced. CF Blake Carruthers had a huge game; 4-5, a home run, and four RBI. RF Sean Pisarski went 2-3 with a home run and three RBI. Box score

Seattle Studs 8, Vancouver Thunderbirds 1: Stopped after seven innings. Ashton Florko started, and got charged with seven of the Studs' eight runs; the Studs were helped by five walks. Greg Chong gave up the eighth run, and Phil Owen and Anthony Kops each pitched two shutout innings. The Thunderbird run was scored by 3B Nic Lindsay, batted in by 2B Keaton Briscoe. Attendance: 1,500 Box score

Sept. 2 - Lewiston Truckers 4, Team Canada 2: Colby Hawk allowed only two hits during the first six innings, and the Truckers had a shutout going into the bottom of the ninth. 3B Jordan Padrinao hit an RBI double to end the shutout, and CF Blake Carruthers scored on a ground out by LF Nic Lendvoy. Team Canada had the bases loaded with two outs, but SS Sammie Starr flied out to center field to end it.

The Truckers got three of their runs in the early going off starter Sheldon McDonald. Taylor King pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, and Jordan Herbison and Mark Hardy each pitched a scoreless inning, although Herbison had to get out of a bases-loaded jam created by three walks. The remaining Trucker run came on a home run in the ninth off Brandon Kaye.

The Birds were out-hit 8-6, and Starr had two of the hits. Attendance: 2,000. Box score
