Another nice day, another good crowd, and the Thunderbirds get a win in a game that could best be characterized as "unusual".
The Thunderbirds treated Warrior starter Tyler Knigge even worse than the Warriors treated Mark Hardy the previous day. Knigge walked the first two batters he faced. CF Jon Syrnyk got a base hit to load the bases, and 1B Scott Webster hit a double to drive in the first two runs. The next batter, DH Nic Lendvoy, hit a single to bring in the winning run. RF Mike Elias drew a walk, and Knigge was replaced without recording an out. He was charged with six runs on three hits.
The next pitcher, Stephen Foster, didn't fare much better. He walked C Ben Torrie with the bases loaded to score a run. 3B Bob Foerster hit a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning. LF Ben Chan hit a bunt single to reload the bases, and SS Sammie Starr, in his second turn at bat of the game, hit a two-RBI single. 2B Alex White drew his second walk of the inning, and Foster was replaced by Brian Erickson with still only one out in the inning, and seven runs in.Syrnyk got his second hit of the inning to bat in a run, and Lendvoy hit a grand slam double.
After the eleven-run first inning, the pitchers took over, and the Thunderbirds were shut out the rest of the way. Erickson stayed in the game for another six innings. He allowed only two more hits, and the only run he was charged with was Syrnyk's. The Thunderbirds left runners on second and third in the second inning, and a runner on third in the sixth. Meanwhile, Thunderbird starter Taylor King went seven innings. He gave up two runs in the top of the third, when he hit a batter, and gave up back-to-back RBI doubles by DH Kris Miller and 1B Ben Ornelas. King had to pitch out of a jam in the top of the seventh when the Warriors loaded the bases with one out on a walk, a hit batter, and a single. However, King got a fly out and a ground out to leave the bases loaded.
King's numbers were seven hits, three strikeouts, and two bases on balls. Jeff Hall pitched the last two innings, and faced only seven batters; one hit, and one strikeout.
Lendvoy finished the game 2-4, with four RBI. Starr was 2-4 with two RBI and a double, and Syrnyk was 2-2 with one RBI. Miller was 2-4 for the Warriors, and he was the only Warrior with more than one hit. The Birds only out-hit the Warriors by 9-8.
